No one particuarly looks forward to the cold winter days , after all a glorious sunny day wins hands down every day. However you might be putting your t shirts and shorts away but fashion doesn't hibernate as well.

Nothing looks smarter in my opinion than a great winter coat, be it a long coat or the current must have , a quilted jacket . Worn for work over a suit and tie or casually over jeans and a shirt . Accessorise with a a scarf and hat and you will look fantastic .

How do you achieve effortless style . Well firstly forget the effortless style picture you saw of someone in a magazine ...that's probably weeks of planning and involves a stylist . A few tips. Start collecting clothing and accessories that that you love wearing , that fit great and give you confidence. Forget being bang on trend, rather try and be your own fashion icon. All Mod Cons

Sixties inspired fashion is never far away from the catwalk or the high street . Be that all things mini skirt and skinny jeans or the beatnik look or hippy inspired fashions . I have a good friend who was a mod and I suppose is now an ageing mod ! Who will always argue the point on what was mod fashion and what wasn't . He is most vehement on what was /is the Parka to do with Italian influenced scooter riding sixties mods ? Well he can freeze on his scooter if he wishes , but I think power parkas look great. No longer the army inspired heavy duty item with a mod emblem on the back but now it's gone grown up and worn over dresses or skinny jeans, less an army surplus and more a glam must have .

I have a good photographer friend whose signature colour is black . We recently discussed with my friend " The stylist fashionista guru" what the rules are when wearing black shirts . Here are his tips . He says never never wear a tie with a black shirt unless you are auditioning for the Sopranos or your occupation is similar to those in the Sopranos , then of course you can wear what you like . Black shirts on their own are fine but there is that fine line of looking like Tom Jones . Wear them casually , with a pair of jeans and you'll be fine he says .

It's all about anti ageing these days , not a week goes by without some wonder product or other claiming to turn back the clock..if only !!

I have to say though speaking as one whose dressing table is buckling under the weight of various lotions and potions, there is some pretty good stuff out there , and it doesn't have to be eye wateringly expensive . Take serums for instance , yes men should use them ! Well both Nivea and Aldi do an excellent budget range of products . At the other end of the scale , and it really is at the top end , Sisley ecological compound is the ultimate indulgence , at £129 for 125ml please use it sparingly !!!

Traditionally moisturisers and serums have been the domain of us girls but a massive share of the beauty product market is now aimed at you guys and why not.....

I find myself obsessing about hands these days , my own and others .

If your own mitts aren't quite perfect (whose are ) then read on.

It's surprisingly easy to maintain handsome hands, a regular nail trim and a good quality moisturising cream is generally all it takes , but if you fancy a treat occasionally then I can certainly recommend a professional manicure, as well as working wonders visually it's also a very relaxing experience.

I'm thinking hair today ! A source of worry and anxiety for many men ( welcome to our world boys) ok. Ok I know you can't all have hair like Ronny Wood , in fact all the stones put together . The thing is it either goes grey --or it just well , goes!Try not to panic you can still look sexy , just remember if you were once hirsute and now have hair that's gone AWOL then have a sprucely close crop .
